Mobile welding FAQ

How much does mobile welding cost in Thunder Bay?

We don't publish prices because we couldn't find public local price lists to cite, and we won't make numbers up. Mobile welders usually charge for travel or a call-out plus time on site and materials. The main factors are distance, how long the job takes, the material (aluminum and stainless cost more), access, and whether it's after hours. Photos help you get a tighter quote.

Can I get emergency or after-hours mobile welding?

Some local welders take after-hours and weekend calls, but availability isn't guaranteed. Mark your request urgent and say when the machine needs to be running again. After-hours work usually costs more.

What should I have ready before the welder arrives?

Make and model, clear photos of the damage from several angles, the material if you know it, the location and access details, and whether there's power on site. Clean off grease and mud, drain or remove anything flammable nearby, and lock out the machine. See the preparation guide.

What is CWB certification and do I need it?

The Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) certifies companies to CSA standards such as W47.1 (steel) and W47.2 (aluminum), and tests their welders. Structural and some industrial work often requires a CWB-certified company. A bracket on a farm gate usually doesn't. See CWB certification explained.

Should I take it to a shop instead?

If the part is small enough to transport, a shop can control wind, cleanliness and positioning, which matters for aluminum, stainless and precision work. Mobile welding makes sense when the equipment is large, stuck, or downtime is costly.

Can you weld outside in winter or rain?

Welders work outdoors year-round in Northwestern Ontario, but cold, wind and moisture affect quality. Preheating, windbreaks and dry conditions may be needed, so expect the welder to ask about conditions.

Are the welders insured?

The welders are independent businesses. Ask them directly for proof of liability insurance and WSIB clearance. This is especially important for commercial and industrial sites.

Who actually does the work?

An independent local welding business. This site is a referral service that passes your request to a local provider. We don't do the welding.
